Root 66 MTB Race

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Stratton Mountain School assistant nordic coach Matt Boobar is all smiles as he rounds the final bend before the finish of today’s Root 66 mountain bike races held at the Putney School.  The races, which drew over 200 competitors from all over New England and beyond, are sponsored by our friends at the West Hill Shop in Putney.

Pro class riders await the start

That we arrived home late from the party at Shelburne Farms didn’t put the damper on getting up early enough to catch the start of the pro class mountain bikers racing in Putney, VT as part of the Root 66 Apple Blaster/West Hill Stage Race.  (No, it’s not a typo….)  If you know biking – mountain or road – in Southern VT, you know the West Hill Shop.  Drizzly weather made for somewhat nasty riding, but great photo ops.  (Sorry, Justin….)

Remarkably, stayed on board...

No injury, and smiling the whole time.

OK, so there we were, course-side seats (if you can call crouching in a patch of wild blackberries the loge….) and having at least as much fun as most of the riders.  Virtually all seem to be taking the ride in stride. We work hard to keep our gear from the regular splashes, but you know, if you want good pix sometimes you have take a chance or two. Lots of smiles, lots of mud-bog-like sloppiness, with pro riders on a five-lap course over hill and dale on the lower campus of the Elm Lea Farm, aka The Putney School.

No injury - fun photo - left with a big smile on his face. All's good.

No injury here. Left with a big smile on his face. All's good.
