Stratton Mountain School assistant nordic coach Matt Boobar is all smiles as he rounds the final bend before the finish of today’s Root 66 mountain bike races held at the Putney School. The races, which drew over 200 competitors from all over New England and beyond, are sponsored by our friends at the West Hill Shop in Putney.

SMS's Pete Davis gets it done on the dance floor.
Recently we had the pleasure of shooting the Stratton Mountain School‘s annual winter ball. This year’s theme – appropriately enough – was “Moonlight in Vermont.” SMS’s special events impresario Pete Davis, in concert with a large number of faculty, parent, staff and student volunteers pulled off an amazing event. The principle focus of the event is to raise scholarship funds, with a secondary focus on having a memorable time at a mid-winter black tie event.
This year’s event raised considerable general scholarship funds, but also marked the inception of the Becky McGill Memorial Scholarship. Becky, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a fall while free skiing at Sugarloaf earlier this season, was a junior at SMS. With the generous financial backing of Becky’s parents, the SMS trustees and a large number of individuals in attendance at the Winter Ball, the scholarship fund launched in grand fashion. For more information on the scholarship, contact SMS headmaster Chris Kaltsas.
The entire evening went off without a glitch. Great cause, great people having a great time, and oh, did I mention the great food? Off the charts, and our compliments go out to Elizabeth Harris Warner of Elizabethan Fare catering and her crew. Well done! MTC… Herve
